BECOMING A BAR/BAT MITZVAH WITH HASHOMER HATZAIR

CAMP SHOMRIA INVITES YOU TO EXPERIENCE A UNIQUE WEEK OF SYMBOLS AND CEREMONIES

An amazing week awaits young people ages 12 and 13 celebrating their bar and bat mitzvah year, a week entirely devoted to bar and bat mitzvah content.

The bar and bat mitzvah year marks the passage from childhood to adulthood. Those becoming b’nai mitzvah enter an age with both challenges and opportunities. They are moving into the time period when each of us shapes our personal identity, and together we shape the collective identity we assume when reaching the age of mitzvot.

During this week participants will experience content related to adolescence and the forging of identity. At the start of the week, we will select 13 tasks and challenges together.  We will interpret our names and will examine our connection to our family, to our group, to our people, and to Israel - through names and stories from Jewish sources. We will visit a synagogue and will learn about, as well as create Jewish symbols. We will share our experiences with the entire camp at the end of the week, expressing our interpretations of entering the world of maturity and adolescence.

So if you are celebrating or have celebrated your bar or bat mitzvah this year – don’t miss out on a week that is full of experiencing“how to get along with one another” – alone (or only with your madrichim). It is possible to enroll only in this week without participating in the rest of camp sessions.
