Vision
Hashomer
Hatzair aims to create a culture of empowered youth who are socially
active, critical thinkers, and live according to the values of Hashomer
Hatzair throughout their lives. This continuously developing culture,
rooted in Jewish values, is committed to communal living, universal
equity, an involved relationship with Israel, and a holistically
sustainable lifestyle.
Mission

year-round informal youth-led education in urban and rural settings
Hashomer Hatzair engages in dialogue and action based on our vision for
the world through Jewish experiential learning.

History
Hashomer Hatzair was
established in 1913 in Galicia,
Austria Hungary. Since then, Hashomer Hatzair has been providing the
highest quality youth-led informal education and provides a forum for
youth members to take full
responsibility for their education, culture, and the development
of their ideology and activism.
Hashomer Hatzair's century-old legacy includes leading the
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943, establishing over 80 Kibbutzim in
Israel, and leading the cause for peace and social justice in Israel
and throughout the world.
Famous alumni include Arik Einstein, Tony Cliff, Ernest Mandel, Mordecai Anielewicz, Abraham Leon, Benny Morris, Eliane Karp, Leopold Trepper, Amnon Linn, Abba Hushi, Sam Spiegel, Irv Weinstein, and Manès Sperber.
Alumni have founded and direct many non-profit initiatives, including Givat Haviva, OneVoice Movement, Fertile Grounds, Project Equity, The Lotus Kids/Operation Groundswell, MeretzUSA, Nefesh B'Nefesh, The New Israel Fund, PresenTense Institute for Creative Zionism, PeacePlayers, and Middle East Progress/Middle East Bulletin.
Other Alumni are great educators, managers, friends, and people.
We are active in Israel and in over 20 countries worldwide.
